Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to achieve and or maintain an erect penis adequate for a man’s needs or the needs of his partner. This condition is one of the most common sexual problems for men and is more common as men age. Most men have difficulty with erections occasionally however, in some men, the difficulty occurs more frequently and is more severe. ED can lead to stress and anxiety for many people and can affect the quality of a marriage or intimate relationships. There are many safe and effective treatments for ED available. SYMPTOMS:

The symptom of erectile dysfunction is the inability to achieve or maintain an erection.

RISK FACTORS:

Some of the causes of erectile dysfunction are, but not limited to:

  • Use of drugs such as alcohol, antidepressants, sedatives, cigarette smoking
  • Blood flow problems such as diabetes
  • Peyronie's disease or hardening of the heart arteries
  • Nerve impulse problems due to diabetes, strokes and diseases of the nervous system
  • Surgery or trauma to the prostate, bladder or rectum
  • Serious health problems which include severe liver, heart or lung disease
  • Lack of hormones caused by kidney disease, liver disease, alcoholism or treatment of prostate cancer

EVALUATION AND DIAGNOSTIC TESTING:

Our practitioners will do a thorough history, examination, review your labs and discuss different treatment options.

TREATMENT:

There are many different treatment options for ED some of which include:

  • Oral Medications
  • Self-injections
  • Vacuum Erection Devices
  • Penile Prosthesis

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH:

Medical treatment combined with behavioral support is effective for many men and their partners; however, additional therapies are available to those from whom drug therapy is not effective.  Please speak with your physician to determine what is right for you.
